Finally completed the installation of the lights. Drove the bike last night to see if they're worth all the effort (including having the rear shock come off while trying to straighten the belt-guard that I bent because I forgot to take the bike lock off the back wheel!).

The lights work great. Before installing them, I felt spooky about riding the country roads around here at night because I just couldn't see very well. We often have fog at night, too. The lights fill in the sides of the road and last night I found that I could ride at a good speed with confidence. In fact, because of the way they're aimed, they put more light on the road when the bike is leaned over than when it's straight up.

PS
During the ride, I had proof positive that a loud muffler (SuperTrapp with 5 disks) can be a safety measure. Twice I came across deer at the side of the road. Each of them was turning away from the bike because of the noise it made.
